The All New (Canon 1D Mark IV)

New to the Canon world! Well I am too, I just placed an order for the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV. I purchased mine from, “Woodland Hills Camera & Telescope” in Los Angeles. What an amazing little camera store.

I recently switched from Nikon, I like to play life dangerously so to speak! I’ve never shot with a Canon nor have I held any Canon camera more than a couple of minutes my entire photography career, which is about 5 years. I decided to sell all my Nikon gear and convert over to Canon because of a bad experience with Nikon.

It wasn't Nikon itself that I blame, its the store I purchased the camera from. They sold me a camera, as they explained the 1 year manufacture warranty, yeadi Yeadi YEADa they left out a very important detail, it was gray MARKET.

The Nikon D3 camera completely died on me after receiving many memory card reading errors. I then had called them in regards to this problem. I paid nearly 5k dollars for the camera and Insurance,They weren't at all interested in helping me. I contacted Nikon themselves they asked me to send it to them. Thank god there was a local Nikon repair close by. I then called after shipping the D3 a few days later and they told me the camera had been sent back to me! I was in shock, a little happy until they said this was a GRAY MARKET CAMERA designed to be sold in another country. They also asked why I had a gray market camera. Nikon explained to me they will not do any repairs, even if i paid them too, because it was gray market.

I was in shock, immediately I called American Express, told them the situation, explaining we were sold one camera, I got a completely different one! The only reason I used the American Express is because of there 1 year guarantee on any items you purchase. They opened up a dispute case immediately, which sorry to say didnt lead to anywhere. (They Totally suck)...

Anyways back to a lighter note I am converting over to Canon, Im excited about the FULL HD Video feature, smooth high ISO, and the very responsive fast 10 fps shutter speed. All at 16.1 MP ... WOW, so I will be posting examples of what I can pull off with this camera, in both video and photography. I’m new to this blog thing, so if i have no readers thats ok, just kinda doing this to kill time...

Ill try and push it to the limit... Well see.... Im an amateur in video although I tend to be pretty strong in editing the sound and video, all self taught keep in mind just in case it doesn't look so great!

I also just purchased a “Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG APO Macro HSM II Zoom Telephoto Lens”, I really still don't really know what all that jumbo means but the HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor) plus the constant F2.8, and the price I really need! So Sigma here we go, Im going to test you out, push this little baby to the limit and see how you perform. I’ve read allot of forums in regards to Sigma, the good the bad, and the in-between. As a middle person looking in at a distance, it seems to me that it really is just preference! I wish Lenses could just be really cheap... I mean then anyone could have it, kinda like the new Health Care Bill... minus the whole “Its the Law thing to have”, I think would be amazing. Although Sigma does have some super expensive lenses, I paid just a little over $800 with shipping for this bad boy. I then found out from “Woodland Hills Camera”, “Sigma isn’t a good lens, they don't have the technology to have perfect results of exposure and the electronic syncing doesn't work sufficiently.” Although they might be right, I’m taking my chances, I dont really like Tamron Lenses, they feel cheap to me. The Sigma’s well I had One when I worked for a company, and I LOVED it. It feels well built, strong, and worth the money.

So back to the whole Canon thing, yeah this will be a journey and if your interested in seeing how it goes and if you want to read more GREAT!

I wanna give my own fun and interesting review on this camera once I get my hands on it.

I also ordered the really amazing sounding “Canon 580EX II Speedlite”, for a whopping 400 something on Amazon. Carries Canon’s nice dandy warranty and piece of mind, so Im fascinated to see the comparison on this flash to my old “Nikon SB-600”. I bought my, “Gary Fong Collapsible Lightsphere”, gotta have this thing as its amazing! if you've never used one, go buy one immediately, especially if you shoot events or on location.
